New Mexico Bowl

BowlQuest gets off to a rocky start.  The Duke/Utah basketball game goes into overtime on ESPN so the the game gets underway without being able to watch the full first quarter. This will make me shift bowl watching for a few hours.

Arizona vs. New Mexico

Bob Davie, the former Notre Dame coach, got the Lobos into a bowl game for the first time since 2007, and it's a home game.  That should have put a good crowd in the seats.  The seats are so good that fans are sitting right on the field.

I caught the most of the first quarter (Utah beat Duke in overtime! This will be a good day for Utah sports.) and the full second quarter.  The Lobos were trying all kinds of strange plays including a fake field goal that had the kicker trying to convert on 4th and 10 (that didn't work) and this backfield alignment.

I switched over to the Las Vegas Bowl when this game went to half time. Arizona managed to hang on and get the win 45-37.

Bowl record:  1-0  I put this game high in my confidence picks.  Arizona was stung by a ton of injuries this year including their best defender Scoobie Wright.  The Wildcats become the first team to win two New Mexico Bowls.  I don't know if that's praise or a statement of where a program is in this era of bowl glut.
